ABSTRACT

The term “cyber security” represents the integration of technologies, methods, frameworks, and practices evolved to secure data, devices and communication systems against cyber- attacks to prevent unauthorized access. Cyber security is also referred as information and communication security. The fundamental aim of cyber security is to secure different assets of an organization. Under cyber security, both internal and external threats are administered. It also facilitates to protect above resources from damage precipitated due to natural disasters. Cyber security plays very vital role in protecting different kind of resources in a number of domains. Prominent ones are corporate, government organizations, financial organizations, healthcare, and military, where a huge volume of sensitive data is gathered, transmitted, processed, and stored over electronic devices. In all these application areas, cyber security contributes towards network security, application security, information security, and operational security. Different types of threats which are managed under cyber security are cyber crime, cyber attacks, and cyber terrorism. The most frequently used attacks to frighten cyber security are malware, SQL injection, phishing, man-in-the-middle attack and denial-of-service attack.

Analyzing the importance of the domain, in this chapter we present a detailed cyber security framework. It comprises of cyber security techniques, architecture, and design challenges. Different types of threats to the systems operating in cyber space along with proposed corrective measures are also discussed in detail.
