ABSTRACT

The goal of sustainable development implies fulfilling our present-day requirements, without depriving our future generations of similar opportunities and resources. Development and use of sustainable materials is a path to tread in this direction. The current focus is on devising green synthetic routes for synthesis of new sustainable materials. The paradigm shift to this greener approach for synthesis of sustainable materials is a dire need of the hour to address the chronic environmental pollution and economic loss being created by the unsustainable materials being used globally. This chapter covers an up-to-date overview of the recent approaches and methodologies being adopted for the green synthesis of markedly important sustainable materials, i.e. polymers, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, and ceramics. The chapter encompasses the various strategies being utilized for their sustainable production such as alternative raw materials, green solvents, environment-friendly techniques, etc.
