ABSTRACT

Agriculture has historically been one of the most challenging and traditional activities. Initially, agriculture activities faced more obstacles. Since the introduction of harvesting machines, semi-automated irrigation equipment and other innovations have been made. The application of advanced technologies will successfully transform conventional agriculture into smart farming, with numerous benefits, including cost savings, increased production, and more sustainable practices. Smart farming, often referred to as advanced farming, is the use of modern technology in agriculture, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), sensors, drones, and robots. With data fetched by satellites and drones, technologies with AI using machine learning algorithms provide smart solutions to predict crop yield, inspect crop sustainability, temperature, and precipitation, assess farms for weed management, and identify sickness and deficiency in plants. Farmers can act depending on the information obtained by IoT-based systems. For example, farmers can use these systems’ recommendations to control water flow, optimize field inputs, and treat treatments. Drones collect data on the farm and make it simple to find the best location for planting crops by analyzing soil conditions and water availability. As a result, AI and the IoT will be critical for smart and accurate agriculture to fulfil the increase in production and productivity required to keep up with the expanding population.
