ABSTRACT

The seafood exports has been touching an all-time high, both in terms of quantity and value almost every succeeding year, during the last decade, barring the exception of 2013-14. The major South East Asian markets for Indian marine products are Vietnam with a percentage share of 65.67 in USS terms, followed by Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and other countries. The advent of export oriented aquaculture in the country has had its direct positive impact on the seafood exports. Shrimp from the capture fisheries was contributing to the major share of the seafood exports in the seventies and the eighties. Export oriented Aquaculture Production during 2018-19 was of 6,99,350 tonnes. The Pacific White shrimp continued to contribute the lion’s share of India’s cultured shrimp and prawn production. The production of diversified species of fish and shellfish for export is still in the early stages.
