ABSTRACT

Climate change is presently acknowledged as a significant threat to the biodiversity. It is considered as a man-made global environmental challenge. Three farms located at Perumbavur, located at the bank of river Periyar in the district of Ernakulam and the second study area Pizhala, located in the Kadamakkudi panchayat, Kerala, situated on the Northern side of Kochi and Southern side of Varapuzha which is surrounded by the river Periyar were selected for the study. The cage culture farms located at Pizhala was also subjected to survey. Farmers involved in cage culture operations are now adopting safety measures to protect the cages from climate related eventualities. In many parts of the world, during the recent past, natural and human-induced disasters have become more frequent and increasingly destructive. Fishers and aqua-farmers who depend on water resources for their livelihoods have been seriously affected by loss of life and property.
