ABSTRACT

Nowadays, additive manufacturing is well-known in digital manufacturing industries for making complex shaped 3D products. In recent years, artificial intelligence and machine learning have gained significant attention in additive manufacturing due to their extraordinary performance for predictive maintenance, improving efficiency in the prefabrication stage and defect detection. Artificial intelligence is widely used in additive manufacturing for producing efficient, service-oriented, smart and consistent quality products and addressing the barriers to the extensive applications of additive manufacturing. Further, machine learning algorithms can be used in additive manufacturing for inspecting the powder spreading, optimising process parameters and monitoring in-process defects. This study summarises the findings of the available literature and highlights the interesting applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in additive manufacturing.
