ABSTRACT

Rapid prototyping comprises different manufacturing techniques that transform digital information into physical objects. The exponential rise of the technique marks the beginning of a new era in the field of manufacturing and medical industries. In the rapidly changing environment, the medical industry needs to be on its toes to ensure a rapid solution to casualties, accidents and disabilities in living beings. Such need for medical professionals to act in real-time and more efficiently may be fulfilled by the technique. From the needle of injection to the human prosthetic, clinical training, implants, prosthetics, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and hearing aids rapid prototyping is useful to manufacture all of them. Rapid prototyping by utilising 3D-printing techniques may prove helpful to medical professionals to provide exact answers to many complex problems related to human anatomy. The paper reviews all the prominent medical issues and the recent advancements and developments in the field of rapid prototyping for clinical applications.
