ABSTRACT

A brain aneurysm is a ballooning effect in the blood vessels causing them to weaken with a fear of leakage or rupture. Generally causing no symptoms it can be lethal under severe circumstances and require extreme promptness and accuracy while planning and executing treatment. The traditional methods of assessing the patient data using stacks of 2D images are time-consuming, imaginary and based on the surgeon’s experience. Therefore, with the advent of CAM/CAM and 3D printing, pre-planning the surgery is possible by assisting the anatomy three-dimensionally. The present chapter describes two different approaches to extracting the desired geometry by using software tools. Based on this, a physical replica of the aneurysm fabricated using 3D printing will be used by the surgeons pre-surgically.
