ABSTRACT
In fact, industrial development is important for socioeconomic reasons as it not only provides the productive foundation for economic growth and prosperity of nations but also has a positive impact on multiple aspects of the social fabric such as poverty eradication, income inequality reduction, and participation in formal and non-formal education. Green chemistry principles are a set of guidelines and concepts aimed at reducing the negative impact of chemical processes and products on the environment and human health. Indian alchemy mainly concentrated on gold making and elixir synthesis. Water from time immemorial has always been an important natural resource needed for sustaining life. Although green chemistry has the power to bring about radical change by offering “greener” reagents and alternatives and more benign routes to synthetic methodologies, it is yet to get the awareness it deserves as some industrialists still consider it as a fashion and not a necessity.
