ABSTRACT

Plants possess a wide variety of antioxidants to acclimatise with the ever-evolving environment. These antioxidants exhibit broadly beneficial characteristics ranging from the protection of cells, delays in aging, and scavenging free radicals, resulting in enormous interest in the pharmacological and medical fields. An intricate balance exists between antioxidants and free radicals in healthy people because antioxidants are the first line of defence against free radical damage. The focus of this chapter is on these essential plant-derived antioxidants and their pivotal role against many cardiovascular, neural, and diabetic diseases, as well as ageing. Furthermore, the effects of antioxidant supplements and antioxidant-rich foods in both dietary consumption and therapeutic aspects are discussed.
