ABSTRACT

The Ganyue Canal connects Jiangxi and Guangdong directly. What makes it more important is that it connects the two horizontal drainages, the Yangtze River and the Pearl River, which has far-reaching influence on China's comprehensive transport system. This paper sheds light on the freight transport status of main navigable sections of the Ganyue Canal through research methods such as field research and case studies. With the requirements for economic and social development as well as industrial and comprehensive transport development in affected areas taken into consideration, a reasonable quantitative method is applied to forecast the total freight volume of the Ganyue Canal. Based on the forecast of its transport demand and economic analysis, this paper summarizes the necessity and economy to construct the Ganyue Canal. Its construction time and several proposals are put forward in this paper.
