ABSTRACT
This paper starts from the road-use function of signs and based on the driver's driving safety requirements for traffic signs, proposes three traffic sign functional characteristics indexes: visibility, information integrity, and structural stability. These three signs were proposed through the on-site investigation of the traffic sign disease during the operation period and the analysis of the systematic correlation between the traffic sign functional characteristic and disease, six key disease indexes that affect the function of the sign were refined, and the evaluation index system of the technical status of the highway traffic sign was constructed. This was based on the management needs of road operation management units, using the method of combining hierarchical comprehensive evaluation and single control index. The evaluation method of the technical status of highway signs in the operation period is proposed, which provides support for the operation and management of traffic signs.
