ABSTRACT

To prolong the effective rolling time of the pavement and ensure the service life of the ultra-thin overlay, it is proposed to use easy-density and high-elastic modified asphalt as the asphalt binder for the ultra-thin overlay. The influence of easy-density and high-elastic agents on the performance of asphalt and mixture was studied by the conventional performance test, rheological test, high and low-temperature test, water stability test, and fatigue test. The result shows that under the premise of not affecting the high-temperature performance of asphalt, easy-density and high-elastic agent can effectively improve the low-temperature ductility. Among them, the modified asphalt A with an easy-density and high-elastic agent can alleviate the rapid transformation from elasticity to viscosity due to high temperature. In terms of road performance, the plasticizing and viscosity-reducing characteristics of the easy-density and high-elastic agent make the mixture better dense, and its water stability, low-temperature performance, and fatigue performance are better than SBS modified asphalt mixture. In the two easy-density and high-elastic modified asphalt mixtures, except for the similar high-temperature performance, the other performances of A are better than B. The void fraction of Marshall specimens at different temperatures shows that the easy-density and high-elastic modified asphalt A can obtain better compactness at lower temperatures.
