ABSTRACT

The optimization of intersection signal lights is of great significance for urban environmental protection, energy conservation, and emission reduction. This paper aims to reduce the emission of motor vehicle exhaust at the intersection and reduce pollution. The intersection is simulated by simulation software, VISSIM (Li 2018), and the pollutant emission is calculated based on the working condition distribution by VSP (specific power). Based on this, the intersection signal timing is optimized by synchro (Jv 2019) simulation software. First, an intersection in reality should be selected to output the delay time and vehicle operation information of queuing vehicles in each lane. The pollutant emission of the whole intersection is calculated by the emission model based on specific power. The synchro software was used to optimize the signal timing of the intersection, calculate the emissions of various pollutants with the minimum delay, adjust the signal timing scheme with the minimum delay, and obtain the relationship between pollutant emissions and delay time. After research, it can be concluded that the less the delay time, the smaller the pollutant emission
