ABSTRACT

The hydration heat of blast furnace slag with Portland cement has been studied by means of isothermal calorimetry during 192 hours, considering the interaction between blast furnace slag and Portland cement mineral. The results of hydration heat of blast furnace slag is obtained by the different dosage of blast furnace slag with Portland cement and quartz sand powder. The hydration rate peek value is decreased when the dosage of blast furnace slag increases at an early stage. The value of hydration heat, which the blast furnace slag hydrates in Portland cement environment, is calculated, and the value depends on the blast furnace slag dosage in binders system. The hydration heat value is reduced with increase in dosage in binders. The reason can be considered that in the cement environment, due to increase in slag dosage, especially when the content of slag is more than 30%, the amount of slag powder surface participating in hydration reaction is decreasing.
