ABSTRACT

Beyond the 4G standards, the fifth generation of mobile telecommunications (5G) technology will alter how high-bandwidth subscribers access their phones. It introduces a technique called new radio (NR) to support new radio access technologies and offers improved network tuning with slicing. This article describes the evolution of 4G and 5G core network architecture and gives a full description of the essential technical elements of the new 5G/NR radio-access technology, followed by a diagrammatic representation of 4G and 5G core network architecture.
