ABSTRACT

Globally, fluoroscopic procedures within the screening room are performed daily. These procedures, often simply referred to as ‘screening’ examinations, are some of the more invasive procedures experienced within the radiology department. This means that patients are often required to sacrifice some amount of self-dignity, in pursuit of diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. The technologist’s roles in simultaneously attending to the patient, the radiologist and their equipment, are central to the success of these examinations and care of the patient. This chapter will provide a description of these responsibilities and recommendations for practice, spanning from initial patient interaction through to aftercare.
