ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to open discussion about person-centred approaches within breast services. It will focus on the uniqueness of the breast services practitioner who is involved in the care of the individual, often within their whole care journey. This chapter will guide readers to refocus their practice to become an active participant in that care journey. Acknowledging that practitioners in breast services work within challenging environments, this chapter will demonstrate techniques to enable practitioners to manage anxiety which, in turn, will look to assist person-centred approaches. This chapter will acknowledge the importance of training, advanced communication skills and techniques, and the importance of those when providing a person-centred approach.
