ABSTRACT

Guangzhou Baiyun airport plans to build two tunnels under three runways in service respectively. This paper introduces the comparison and selection process of tunnel construction methods. Based on the investigation of engineering cases and the adaptability analysis of different construction methods, this paper focuses on the comparison and demonstration of open excavation method, pipe curtain method and shield method. The demonstration results show that the shield method has the advantages of small impact on navigation, controllable risk and moderate investment. It is recommended to use the shield method to cross the operating runway. The research provides a strong support for the decision-making of project construction, and has reference significance for similar projects in airport projects.
