ABSTRACT

Based on the global earthquake catalog and disaster data in 2021, statistics were obtained on the data of catastrophic earthquakes with Ms ≥ 6.0, including those abroad as well as all disastrous earthquakes in China in 2021. Combined with typical earthquake cases, this paper analyzes the characteristics of earthquake damage and emergency work at home and abroad in 2021, as well as the matters needing most attention in earthquake emergency response, especially cross-border rescue under the normalization of the epidemic situation, hoping to provide a reference for future earthquake trend analysis and emergency rescue. The results show that the frequency of global earthquake disasters in 2021 is relatively low and the distribution is relatively concentrated; however, the earthquake damage is severe. Poor earthquake resistance of buildings is still the main cause of casualties. In addition, earthquake emergency response will be faced up with huge challenges under epidemic prevention and control for a long time in the future.
