ABSTRACT

China is a country with frequent earthquakes. Earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 5 occur dozens of times every year, and people lose their lives because of earthquakes every year. The Wenchuan earthquake and the Tangshan earthquake took tens of thousands of lives instantly. Therefore, earthquake casualty assessment plays a decisive role in the early stage of an earthquake without accurate data. It will affect disaster relief materials, budget, and disaster relief priorities in each region. Therefore, earthquake people in China have studied the evaluation methods of earthquake casualties from generation to generation. This paper analyzes the causes of earthquake casualties and then summarizes the evaluation methods of earthquake casualties based on intensity, house vulnerability, population, GDP, and multi influencing factor indicators. Then, the advantages, disadvantages, and application scope of these methods are analyzed, and the future is prospected.
