ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the magnificence of the fabless semiconductor ecosystem. It discusses the history of the semiconductor industry, including the invention of the basic building block of all modern digital devices and transistors, the invention of the integrated circuit, and the businesses that developed around them. The main activity of a semiconductor company is to manufacture electronic components, interconnect them, and thus obtain chips or circuits that are used in many areas of everyday life. The semiconductor manufacturing process is one of the most complex these days. Silicon is the basic building block in the manufacture of microelectronic components. To ensure the quality of finished products, many types of controls are needed in semiconductor manufacturing. In recent market research, it has been reported that artificial intelligence (AI)-related semiconductors will see a growth of about 18% annually, and by 2025, AI-related semiconductors could account for almost 20% of all semiconductor demand, which would translate into about $67 billion in revenue.
