ABSTRACT

There are different environmental stresses like salinity, drought, flooding, and adverse temperatures all of which together with their abrupt changes, have a detrimental influence on the photosynthetic carbon fixation process in plants. By limiting photosynthesis, these stresses reduce agricultural productivity and cause yield losses. Photosynthesis is the product of a multistep and complex mechanism involving many biological pathways. Unfortunately, plants have only developed few stress resistance mechanisms to sustain photosynthesis efficiency so far. This chapter will offer a description of how abiotic stresses affect and regulate carbon fixation in C3 cycle during photosynthesis.
