ABSTRACT

Traditional business models do not include social and environmental issues and, therefore, must be turned into sustainable models to meet new challenges. Sustainability in a business context broadens the definition of a business model to include achieving social and ecological goals. A sustainable business processes should be supported by modern information and communication technology to achieve all its objectives, including cognitive technologies. This chapter presents an analysis of theoretical and practical approaches to the application of cognitive technologies in supporting sustainable business processes. The research is based on a literature review. The challenges and research gaps related to the field in question have been presented. On the basis of the research results, it has been concluded that there have been no research projects on the use of cognitive architectures in supporting sustainable processes; however, there is high potential related to using cognitive technologies for tasks such as automated decision-making, the correct interpretation and association of facts, the discovery of connections between objects and phenomena in the enterprise’s environment, learning, and gaining experience.
