ABSTRACT

Automation is transforming the global workforce, and education has a critical role to play in addressing the resulting challenges. This chapter provides a global perspective on the role of education in preparing workers for the age of automation. It begins by examining the impact of automation on the workforce, highlighting the need for workers to develop new skills and competencies in order to remain employable in the face of automation. The chapter then explores the role of vocational education and training programs in preparing workers for automation, with a focus on how different countries are addressing the workforce challenges of automation through their education systems. The effectiveness of different education systems in preparing workers for automation is compared through the analysis of case studies from various countries. The chapter also discusses potential future developments in automation, including advancements in artificial intelligence, increased use of robotics, and expansion of the gig economy. The role of international cooperation in addressing automation challenges is evaluated, with a focus on how collaboration between education institutions, industry, and government can help to effectively address the challenges of automation.
