ABSTRACT

China has clearly put forward the vision of achieving carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 (Cao 2020). Under this strategic background, the development of the shipping market is both an opportunity and a challenge. The international shipping industry, in particular, is still deeply affected by the epidemic, with the transportation costs soaring and the entire shipping market facing problems such as insufficient transportation capacity. The replacement of ships will also affect carbon emissions to a large extent. Combined with the status quo of the low-carbon development of the foreign shipping industry, the problems existing in the development of shipbuilding and chartering industries are analyzed. On this basis, by analyzing the current state of the international shipping market and future development trends, this paper puts forward suggestions based on carbon reduction and zero-carbon emission goals, which can be used as a reference for the carbon reduction and zero-carbon development of China's shipping industry.
