ABSTRACT

The 21st century announced rapid and radical changes due to climate changes and massive immigration. All the planet is suffering and asks science and technology to afford new solutions and changes in primary production. There is an urgent need for fertilizers of a new generation and a novel approach to fertilization methods, in consideration of the environment and increasing need of food. The cost of fertilizers is growing continuously, as well as their request in quantity and quality. The opportunity of the utilization of neem cake as a biofertilizer is proposed here based on recent research and the possibility of obtaining a large quantity at a low cost, being a by-product of the production of neem oil. The experimental observations about neem cake nematicidal effects are also reported. Furthermore, combinations of neem cake and moringa for obtaining a biofertilizer with nematicidal action added value are proposed as a coupled system for improving agri-food value chains of both neem and moringa.
