ABSTRACT

Organic amendments are used in agriculture to improve soil physicochemical qualities, temperature and humidity conditions, and soil structure, which are essential for plant development. Oilseed cakes are the by-product of the oil industry obtained after oil removal from the seeds. For decades, oilseed cakes have been added to soil as organic amendments to increase crop yield and enhance soil fertility. The efficacy of flaxseed oil cakes has been investigated against soil-borne pathogens, including plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs). Several studies have also emphasized the application of biocontrol agents with oilseed cake to manage PPNs in cultivated crops. The literature survey indicated that the flaxseed oil cake had not been studied extensively to determine its phytotoxicity against pests and diseases. This chapter discusses information from many studies on flaxseed oil cake as a nematicidal, antibacterial, and antifungal agent.
