ABSTRACT

This paper presents the numerical simulations of the honeycomb sandwich panel subjected to blast load. The honeycomb sandwich panel consists of two solid plates as a stiffener and one honeycomb core-shell type structure. Prior to the main study, the numerical predictions using ABAQUS are compared to the published experimental results of the sandwich panel against the explosive charge. In the primary simulation, a sandwich panel model with a square and hexagonal core is investigated under the blast loads of 1 kg, 2 kg, and 3 kg TNT with a combination of a different materials. The objectives of the numerical study were to gain an insight into the various structural response to blast loads. Finally, by comparing the deformation of each structural configuration, the behavior of each configuration to withstand explosive loads is achieved.
