ABSTRACT

In the present study, the stress concentration factors (SCFs) in uniplanar DKT-joint reinforced with different fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs) under the compression loading are determined. To this end, 108 finite element (FE) models reinforced with different FRPs and geometrical parameters are created and analysed. Available experimental data are used to validate the finite element models. The validated finite element models are utilized to investigate the effects of the FRP parameters along with different geometrical parameters on the stress concentration factors values in uniplanar DKT-joints. Results showed that stress concentration factor of a reinforced uniplanar DKT-joint with FRP can be down to 43 percent of the SCF of the unreinforced uniplanar DKT-joint. Furthermore, the increase of the FRP thickness and layers results in a significant decrease in stress concentration factors.
