ABSTRACT

This paper presents a double Wiebe function to compute the behaviour of the combustion process and the performance of a marine biodiesel engine. This extends an earlier study in which the engine model was developed in a 1D engine simulation software and was calibrated using the pressure load diagram collected from experimental data. The double-Wiebe function used here shows the ability to estimate the behaviour of the combustion process of a diesel engine. The current study simulates the engine model based on the same Wiebe function while considering a biofuel. A comparison study is performed between the engine performance as well as the combustion behaviour in both diesel oil and biofuel. A reduction in brake power and an increase in brake specific fuel consumption is achieved in the case of biofuel.
