ABSTRACT

This work aims to analyse the gas emissions of a multipurpose fleet operating in the Black Sea. The vessels were designed to satisfy all naval architectural characteristics employing the lifecycle cost assessment and accounting for the energy efficiency. The gas emissions of NOx, SO2 and PM of the fleet of five vessels during the voyage, port operation and queuing in the seaport in front of the port of Varna are evaluated. The geographical coordinates of queuing locations, number of queuing ships that are seen as a source of pollution, wind speed and direction, global solar radiation, geographical receptor coordinates are used to execute the Gaussian dispersion model over a distance coinciding with seaports where the ships are queuing. The ground-level concentrations on preselected receptors in Varna are estimated. The analysis concluded that the high levels of air emissions indicate tendencies for possible violation of the maximum allowable concentrations.
