ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses congenital naevi and haemangiomas in children with brown skin (Fitzpatrick skin type V/FST 5). These are discussed based on clinical photographs and easy-to-read question-and-answer format. Thirteen types of commonly seen naevi and six types of vascular anomalies are briefed: Becker naevus, blue sacral naevus, congenital epidermal naevus, congenital melanocytic naevus, connective tissue naevi, halo naevus, mole (acquired melanocytic naevi), naevus sebaceous, naevus spillus, piebaldism, and pigmentary mosaicism are briefly discussed with clinical photographs. Hypopigmented naevi that are common in brown skin (but not documented in white skin) are also included.

Out of vascular anomalies, A-V malformations, infantile haemangioma, lymphangioma, non-involuting haemangioma, port wine stain, and pyogenic granuloma are discussed. Erythema is mild and inconspicuous in darker skin and may lead to fatality if not vigilant. Altogether this chapter discusses 19 clinical cases using 27 clinical photographs.
