ABSTRACT

The fungal kingdom constitutes a six-phylum within the domain of eukaryotes. However, it is hypothesised and partially supported that there are between one and four million species of fungi worldwide. The mushroom industry encompasses edible, medicinal, and wild varieties. In the past 60 years, the global production of edible mushrooms has multiplied by 30. According to the FAO’s Statistical Database, China produces the most mushrooms, followed by the United States and the Netherlands. Initial reports indicated that it was confined to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau’s Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture at high altitudes. The mouth cavity, the insect cuticles, or spiracles are the entry points that the caterpillar fungus O. sinensis uses to infect its insect larvae. Enzymatically, the entrance and proliferation of hyphae serve to breach the insect’s immune system by the active secretion of a wide variety of the biomolecules.
