ABSTRACT

Steep rise in population, reduced cultivable land-holding capacity and climate change cause inadequate quality food supplies, leading to de-treating quality of health which is a major concern. Mushroom is a typical fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a macro fungus, devoid of leaves and chlorophyll-containing tissues. Presently, in the world, there are 12,000 mushroom species out of which 2,000 edible species were reported by Beulah et al., in 2013. Mushroom is an umbrella-shaped fungus which is always seen in stories and pictures books. In Nature, whatever the wild types grow, they have the most common umbrella shape. At very early phase of mushroom development, a fungal hypha grows, bears buttons in later stage and on reaching maturity, burst to form the umbrella. A raised platform of about 1m in length and 0.75 m in breadth or appropriate dimension with wooden planks/bamboos be erected, providing bricks or any support at all the four corners, or prepare racks for mushroom production.
