ABSTRACT

Poria cocos, commonly known as ‘Tuckahoe’, is a plant prevalent in North America. Most studies have also used the term ‘Fuling’. Edible and therapeutic mushrooms seem to be natural resources that provide significant health advantages and have long played as a major food and medication throughout the whole globe. The Polyporaceae saprophytic mushroom Wolfporia cocos Ryvarden and Gilb is well known. This species is a key component in the well-known snack Tuckahoe pie and is one of the most well-known materials used in Chinese and other Asian traditional medicines. The dried sclerotia of P. cocos has been used as a diuretic and sedative in traditional Chinese medicine, while the interior section is utilised as an energising agent. Polysaccharides have anticancer and immunomodulatory properties. Other therapeutic properties of P. cocos components include antinephritic, antiemetic, antioxidant, nematic activity, acne and oily skin therapy and even reduction in the symptoms of hot flashes.
