ABSTRACT

Due to progressive deterioration and accumulative or sudden damage, aging infrastructures require close attention before any failure mechanism forms on the structure. To that end, condition assessment of civil structures has been gaining attention in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Nevertheless, more experimental studies on the civil structures are needed. Thus, this paper investigated a comparative analysis of a multi-span prestressed concrete highway bridge by conducting Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) and Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) in the collected data from same and different spans within two years timeframe. The resulting variation in the structural parameters extracted from the OMA and EMA tests after that timeframe reflects the changes in the analyzed spans' conditions. The demonstrated experimental analysis in this study will reveal the opportunities and challenges of implementing OMA and EMA which will assist the civil SHM community for the condition assessment.
