ABSTRACT
Sund & Bælt Holding A/S is the owner and operator of the Storebælt Link between Funen and Zealand in Denmark, which comprises the 6.8 km long East Bridge and the 6.6 km long West Bridge. The link is the major link between the eastern and western parts of Denmark with about 90% of the traffic volume crossing the link, the numbers are now above 36,000 vehicles per day. The East Bridge is the largest bridge in Europe and the 5th largest in the world meas-ured on the main span of 1624 meter. In order to improve the safety and Accessibility on the bridges studies were made to find solutions both to avoid accidents and to improve the accessibility if an accident should occur. Data has been analysed and data is being used in finding the solutions, data included is related to the traffic, the accidents and the wind including wind tunnel test. Solutions both to avoid accidents and to divert traffic if accidents should occur has been developed, partly implemented and will be further described in the paper.
