ABSTRACT

In 2017, SBHS (Steels for Bridge High-performance Structure) has been specified in “Specifications for Highway Bridges” in Japan. In order to investigate local buckling strength of welded box stub-column made of SBHS500 under axial compression, finite element analyses were conducted, covering a wide range of width-to-thickness ratio (R R ). The validity of the analysis models was examined by comparing the experiment results in previous study and reproduction analysis results. Then, the local buckling strength obtained from analysis results were compared with existing ultimate strength curves. As a result, the ultimate strength values obtained from parametric analysis were slightly lower than values given by existing ultimate strength curves around R R = 0.7. In the end of this study, another ultimate strength curve which can evaluate local buckling strength of welded box stub column made of SBHS500 more accurately was proposed based on the analysis results.
