ABSTRACT

Among the almost 300 viaducts and underpasses managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), La Bauma viaduct dates from more than half a century ago and its design and the construction methods available at that time combined with the Llobregat river flow have made this bridge stand out from the rest and require special maintenance action repeatedly. After subaquatic inspections of its foundations, the viaduct, consisting of 9 arches and totalling a length of 195 meters, needed a major repair in the pillar located on the riverbed in 2019. The aim of this paper is to present the case study of La Bauma viaduct from an infrastructure-owner’s perspective, covering the whole process from construction to inspection, repair project and on site works.
