ABSTRACT

This paper presents an on-going monitoring of the stiffening truss connection links and finger joints in a suspension bridge. Strain gages, tiltmeters, crack gages, accelerometers, and noise meters are used to perform monitoring. Some of the links were determined to have partially frozen pins due to corrosion and have been replaced. The remaining links are also gradually seized. A retrofit to reduce finger joint vibration and noise was also monitored by measuring strains, accelerations, and noise.
