ABSTRACT

This paper reports the process that allowed to check the condition of a steel railway bridge that, has a strategic position within the network. The inspections conducted are illustrated, together with the numerical analyses developed and the conception of specific tests on site. As a result of all these activities, it was possible to set up a monitoring system that allowed to follow the possible evolution of the bridge’s state and to extend, although limitations, its operation. The specific case of the examined bridge is supposed to be an example of good practice useful for infrastructure authorities.
