ABSTRACT

Melioidosis can have diverse manifestations in the gastrointestinal system. Many case reports and series have described melioidosis as a rare cause of liver and splenic abscess. Pancreatic involvement of melioidosis is rarely reported, with only a handful of cases published til now, usually presents as a bulky pancreas with large focal abscesses or multiple micro-abscesses or infected pancreatic pseudocyst. Alcoholism, diabetes, and immunosuppression are known risk factors for melioidosis. Risk factors for mortality and treatment failure include bacteraemia, advanced age, and the presence of organ failure. Gastrointestinal melioidosis has an overall good prognosis compared to neurological melioidosis.
