ABSTRACT

As a result of the affordable rates of Internet service providers and electronic devices, there is a drastic increase in the data generation rate, which accounts for multimodal data in the form of text, images, videos, etc. This Big Data can be utilized to create data-driven predictive models in various fields. One of the major areas where these technological advances can be utilized for the benefit of society is healthcare. The chapter aims to understand the opportunities of Big Data in Internet of Things (IoT) for healthcare application and to explore various research challenges associated with it. Every person should get medical support and services 24 × 7 seamlessly, irrespective of their geographical location, which is the main objective of IoT in healthcare. Here, an IoT architectural model is proposed for intensive patient care using smart sensors, an emergency notification system, and a clinical predictive model. Also, a case study is discussed on the smart healthcare systems in India.
