ABSTRACT

Industrial Control System (ICS) is a general term that encompasses different types of control systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), but also different cyber-physical environments, such as, among others, transportation, dams, emergency services, healthcare, energy, and agricultural systems. An ICS consists of combinations of monitoring and control components that act together to achieve an industrial control objective. ICSs are increasingly relying on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). ICSs have evolved including ICT capabilities into existing physical systems, often replacing or supplementing physical control mechanisms. Internet of Things (IoT) communication technologies are part of this action.
