ABSTRACT

The exceptional inherent properties of two-dimensional MXenes, including tunable compositions, hydrophilicity, electrical and thermal conductivity, render them promising nanofillers for the fabrication of multi-functional MXene-based polymer composites in recent years. In this chapter, we summarize the up-to-date development of polymer/MXene composites with special emphasis on the enhanced fire-safe characteristics. First, the preparation strategies of MXenes and MXenes/polymer composites are outlined and their respective merits and demerits are compared. Then, the main section focuses on the application of MXenes in improving the fire-safe properties of polymer composites. Finally, the challenges and future perspectives on the fire-safe polymer/MXene composites are also commented. We anticipate this chapter will prospectively guide the advances of high-performance polymer/MXene composites with enhanced fire-safe characteristics.
