ABSTRACT

Educational settings are an integral part of the lives of students, teachers, communities, and society considering the time invested in schools and higher education institutions and the social relationships created there. During the pandemic education sector experienced a turmoil when locations when campus shifted from buildings to video conferencing, physical interaction became minimal and learning required intervention of technology. This also added emotional turbulence to the lives of students and teachers as they were forced to learn new patterns of working in a short time besides facing fear, uncertainty, and loss of lives in their personal sphere. The need for positive emotions is felt even more in pandemic. This chapter emphasizes how positive emotions enrich the learning experience. It provides information about emotions which aid learning, emotions for the wellbeing of students and teachers. It includes practices for both students and teachers for their emotional enrichment. These practices do not require any expensive resources and thereby can be easily implemented in classrooms, online sessions, and daily life. To make online sessions effective and engaging, Harvard Business School’s Virtual Teaching Task Force devised a framework REMOTE (reactions, eye contact, manageable, organized, thoughtful, engaged), which 206can be used by teachers and faculties. This chapter also includes a case from Peru where an institution has been using emotions of joy and to impart important lessons of life and to connect modern education local traditions and nature.
