ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic had a dreadful impact on the education sector as governments enacted nationwide lockdowns and education institutions were forced to close for an unknown period of time. This sudden closure of academic institutions prompted a shift to digital education where numerous alternative modes of virtual teaching-learning were adopted and explored. This shift from traditional in-person education to virtual pedagogy was not an easy transition for most countries. In this light, the present study aims to investigate the challenges faced by education institutions and the stakeholders amidst the COVID-19 crisis. The study also endeavors to explore numerous opportunities created during the outbreak and elucidates the importance of channeling all stakeholders’ efforts in unison to boost the virtual education system. Lastly, some recommendations have been presented that may help strengthen the education sector in the event of a future crisis.
