ABSTRACT

Based on the meteorological data of 10 national surface meteorological observation stations in the Taihu Lake Basin from 1981 to 2016, the K-index method is used to calculate the seasonal and annual drought indices of the Taihu Lake Basin in the past 36 years, and analyze the various characteristics of drought on various time scales in the Taihu Lake Basin. Results indicate that the drought in the Taihu Lake Basin is mainly light drought and moderate drought, and autumn is the most frequent drought season. The areas with high drought frequency are mainly concentrated in the northern part of the Taihu Lake Basin, and HX has the highest drought frequency. From 1981 to 2016, the drought intensity and the number of drought stations in the Taihu Lake Basin showed an increasing trend except for summer and winter, indicating that the level and scope of drought increased. In terms of the persistence of the drought trend, the future drought trend on each time scale is the same as that in the past 36 years, and the persistence of the spring and autumn trend is strong. In terms of the affected area of drought, the drought in the Taihu Lake Basin is dominated by global drought, and the frequency of global drought has increased after 2000.
