ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on the applications of the seismic response spectrum in the seismic design, introduces the different standard calculation methods of the seismic response spectrum curve in China, America, and the Philippines, and analyzes and compares the differences in those methods. To benefit the international projects involving the Chinese, this paper is to assist Chinese engineers by providing a better understanding of the calculation methods of the standard seismic response spectrum curves of China, America, and the Philippines. Different calculation methods of the standard seismic response spectrum curves are introduced, the relationship between them is analyzed, and their differences are compared. A project in the Philippines is taken as an example to illustrate the different calculation methods of the seismic response spectrum curves using the standard of China, America, and the Philippines. The seismic response spectrum curves for this specific project are obtained by the specific site analysis. The curves are calculated using standard methods practiced in China, America, and the Philippines, and are compared with the seismic response spectrum curves calculated by the specific site analysis. The resultant calculation method yields the most accurate results from the specific site analysis.
